Welcome to Mammut Mountain Yak Farm

Mammut Mountain Yak Farm is a female-owned business in Two Rivers, Alaska. The farm is named after the owner's Great Alaskan Pyrenees dog, Mammut. We raise yaks because they are intelligent, versatile, and thrive in harsh cold climates. Our goal is to share our passion for yaks, educate about the qualities that allow them to be comfortable at 40 below zero, and demonstrate the variety of ways yaks provide to our lives.

Alaskan Farm Life and Yaks

Mammut Mountain Farm is near the Tanana State Forest in Interior, Alaska. My partner Chase and I live off-grid in a dry cabin that he initially built to run his dog kennel. We now raise yaks and sled dogs. Yaks are native to the Asian Highlands which include the Himalayas and plateaus of Mongolia. Fairbanks has an arctic desert climate that is challenging for many livestock animals, but not yaks. We currently brush our yaks for fiber and train them for packing. Yaks also can be a wonderful source of milk and protein. We hope you will follow along as our farm grows.

Mammut Mountain Farm expands fencing and prepares to offer tours. We are in the process of fencing in two new fields. One will be a grazing field for the yaks that can also be used as a play area for the dogs when the yaks are not in there. The other is a tour area set up with an authentic Alaskan wall tent and a covered area to meet the yaks. Fencing is an arduous but rewarding process. The fence is made of 12.5 gauge woven wire and double strand wire up to 6-ft. The corners are made of railroad ties. Spruce poles and T-posts make up the body of the fence. Materials are very expensive in Alaska so we add more fenced area incrementally. We are excited for this big push!
